Lest we forget, nature is in charge...

Mother Nature definitely let us know just who is in charge.
We made great progress in some areas, and setbacks in others.

The upstairs drywall is a huge improvement!  We still have lots of trim work and finishing to do, but the drywall makes the rooms look sooo much more like actual rooms!  It is much easier to get a 'feel' for the spaces.
Below is the view of our great room, the doorway leads back to our bedroom.

I get excited every time I see this!
We have had, overall, very good weather for the construction.  The week before last we had a 2+ inch rainfall which tested our water management system (that is in place so far).
This last week, it rained all day Monday, Tuesday, and some on Wednesday.
Unfortunately it was too much for our system without power.
The shell of the house did just great, no unexpected water leaks (the roof is not done yet so we had some leaks there).  Unfortunately, with no vegetation and very clay like soil, the water just drained down into the drain tile of the house, and then came up through the unpowered sump pump basket.
We found about 2-3 inches of standing water downstairs on Wednesday.

At first, I panicked (come to think of it, at second and at third as well).
Both Kerry and Marc assured me the framing would be fine after it dried out, the water could be drained using temporary power and everything would be fine.

Not a pleasant surprise.
Turns out, they were right, and I am much calmer now.
The bulk of the water was gone in a day.  We are still drying out the last remnants of it.  We also have a tarp on the roof to insure there are no water leaks now that we are putting in drywall upstairs.
The work of the plumbers and HVAC systems downstairs will have to wait a bit as we dry out the basement.
Work is continuing upstairs, as well as the outside of the house.

Preparation for the siding got started just at the end of the week.
The black strips in the photo to the left are set to provide space for air to move behind the siding.  This will help prevent any moisture getting trapped behind the siding.
This is a short work week, however, the weather should be nicer, so I am hoping to have lots to talk about next week.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Talk to you more next week!

Mark really doesn't like to talk about himself, the house is much more interesting.
