The game room comes into shape!

6/21/2016

The game room is coming into focus!  ...
This week all the base cabinets for the game room have been installed and measured for counters.
I was amazed how many cabinets there were, and how much room they took up when first delivered.  The first image gives you a good idea of the chaos the guys were dealing with.
It is also a wonderful illustration of why Jesse and his crew number everything!!

While these guys tamed the mass of cabinetry all at once, I have split up the photos by wall.  So I show various stages of the south wall, through to completion, and then the west, then north.

The south wall of the game room also holds my office area in one corner, along with our media computer for the house.
The second image shows the side of the cabinetry that will divide the gaming area from the music room.
In the fifth photo, you can see it on its side with the base of it being leveled off a bit so it makes a perfect match to the floor.

We don't have a lot of room for storage in our house, so the built-in cabinets are our storage.  As such we have drawers, and shelves, and open alcoves, larger corner cabinets, etc.  There is a great variety in this one room as well as lots of storage solutions specifically for my gaming hobby.

The west wall has a center cabinet a bit raised and that extends a few inches further from the wall.  This will be a platform for a sculpture of mine called "Ghost".
The image to the right doesn't really do it justice.  I am sure in a few weeks I will have a much better picture in our new home:)

The north wall gave us a minor curve ball.
For future use, we roughed in some plumbing so that, one day, if we decide to, we can renovate and build a little kitchenette downstairs.
Welllll, as you can see in some of the photos above, the piping for the future sink, is exactly in the middle of one of the open alcoves for storage.
So, the plumbers came out (in very quick order I might add!), and angled the pipe.
The cabinet was then moved into place and we will place a false back in it to cover the pipe.
We will also have a drawer fridge and microwave along the north wall.

The north-east wall is an interesting one.
We have a cabinet door that will be on the south side of it, with a deep pocket along the wall of the bathroom.  Most of this will be built when the uppers are installed.
The deep pocket is there so we have someplace to store the top of the gaming table.  It measures four feet by about 7 feet by a couple of inches.  We also will have a bit of storage room in there for a folding table and a few other large but thin items.
I have a few pictures of it above, it will make much more sense as the upper cabinets are installed.

The game room has also been measured for the countertops, which should be ready to install in a couple of weeks.
In addition to all the activity around the game room this week, the vanity for the downstairs bathroom is inlace and has been measured for its countertop.
The garage has been taped and is in the process of being mudded.
We also made our selection for the garage doors after switching garage door vendors.
More drawers in various rooms have been installed.
More electrical work has been done throughout the house, but the stuff in the mechanical room has me the most excited!  One stop closer to being able to go live with our own mechanical equipment.
More paneling for the stairwell and other areas has been delivered and is ready to be installed.

And, we met another new neighbor.  He appears to have a very large family, and from what I hear, the family continues to grow very fast.
Oh, and they love coming over for salad!
